Mrs. Kincaid's class

I am using the hydria for my vase because I think it is the prettiest vase of the three vases. The hydria was used to store water in. I am using the red-figure style because I think it will work best with my design. The red-figure style is when the drawing is red and the vase is black.

The first Olympic Games were started in Greece. They were first held in 776B.C. to honor the Greek god Zeus. The athletes would win a crown of olive branches. Something else that started in Greece was democracy. Democracy began in 508B.C. Democracy means rule by the people. Only male citizens voted. I used an amphora. I picked it because it had a good design and it was just me. What was really cool was that last year we didn't really learn about Greek mythology and I got to learn stuff I didn't know before. Greek vases are important because of their history. They show us how people lived back then. We should appreciate that.

My vase is a hydria. It was used for storing water. I picked it because I thought it looked the most complicated. I am drawing Spartans in a tournament because I think the Spartans looked cool.

I am using an amphora. An amphora was used to store oil in. I picked an amphora because it looked like the hardest one to do and I like challenging myself. My design is a Spartan. I like how the Spartan design looks and I like Michigan State, so that is why I picked it.

In 472 B.C., Greek theaters became popular. Audiences would see jugglers and magicians and plays. Actors wore masks to show the audience if they were happy or sad.

The first Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C. They were held every 4 years to honor the great Zeus. A crown of olive branches was the prize. Democracy began in Ancient Greece in 508 B.C. Democracy means ruled by the people and male citizens were the ones to vote. The start of the classical period was in 500 B.C. They called it the classical period because they made a lot of art and used their imagination to design buildings. Greek theaters became popular in 472 B.C. They would see jugglers juggle and magicians do magic. Masks were always used for making the audience think they were sad or happy.

I am making a hydria. The hydria was used for storing water. I picked it because I thought if I made the amphora I wouldn't have enough room to draw what I wanted to.  A year ago, my Grandmother gave me "A Child's Introduction to Greek Mythology" because she had already given me the Percy Jackson books and I guess she thought it would help me understand those stories better. I am more interested in this lesson because of the book. I find all the mythological creatures interesting because I like animals.

I am using a hydria because it is one of the biggest vases. That way I can put a lot on it. A hydria was used to store water. For my drawing, I am putting Jason's coin from The Heroes of Olympus Series of books. I like the coin because whenever Jason flipped the coin either a sword or a triton would appear. Those symbols represent Greek mythology to me.

A hydria was used to carry and store water in. I used it because I like big things and I thought it would be cool. I have a Spartan on my vase because it tells about what happened in Greece long ago. I am enjoying this project. It is really fun. I like drawing patterns and shapes in the same order. Greek vases always had patterns at the top and bottom, so it's fun for me.

A hydria was used for storing water. It was a very important vase. If they couldn't store water in their homes life would be more difficult. It was my favorite vase. I picked it because of how big it was. The space was large and fit the design I wanted to do. I learned that vases tell stories and I learned a lot about what ancient Greece was like back then.

I picked an amphora because it had a lot of space to draw in. An amphora was used for general storage and it often had oil in it. One of the things that I learned about Greek life was that only men could be actors in plays. They would wear costumes to act the part of a woman. I thought that was interesting because I'm interested in the theater and I've been in a couple of plays.

The first Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C. The Olympic Games were held to honor the Greek god Zeus. If the athletes won something, they would get a crown of olive branches. Democracy began in Greece in 508 B.C. Democracy means ‘ruled by the people’ and only men could vote.

I am using an amphora. It was used for storing oil. I thought it was the prettiest of all the choices we had. I am using red-figure design because I like the black background. It makes the drawing pop out.

I originally started with an amphora, but it really ending up looking like a hydria. It's funny how you do one thing and it turns out like another. A hydria was used to store water in. In this lesson I learned that the Greeks were attacked by the Romans. The art work was taken and a lot of their culture was destroyed. The art on their vases told a story. Because we have some of their vases we know about their culture. The Greeks had democracy. It's important to us, otherwise some of us could be ruled by a king, but we get to vote.

I used black-figure design. I picked it because I thought it would look cool with the Spartan helmets. I knew I could draw a good Spartan helmet so I picked that for my design. I am using an amphora because I liked the shape of it a lot. It was used to store liquids. I really like history and stuff so this lesson fits me.

The Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C. every 4 years. The Olympic Games honored the great Greek god, Zeus. The athletes won a crown of olive branches if they had done well. The Democracy began at 650 B.C., a little after the Olympic Games. The word ‘Democracy’ means “ruled by the people.”  The men of Greece would vote how states should run.  The start of the “Classical Period” began in 500 B.C. The people of Greece would call this the “Classical Period” because there was a lot of interest in art, imagination, and buildings. The Classical Period ended at about 323 B.C. Greek theaters became popular at about 472 B.C. The people that audiences would see would normally be magicians and jugglers. There were also plays. Actors would use special masks to tell if they were either happy or sad.

I used a hydria because it looked like it was the hardest to do and I wanted to make it complicated. A hydria was used for storing water. I liked learning about ancient Greece and making my own piece of history. The first Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C. They were held every four years in Olympia in honor of the mythological god Zeus. Democracy began in Athens in 508 B.C. The only people who voted were the male citizens. The term democracy means ‘ruled by the people.’ The Classical Period was a time when there was a lot of interest in art, imagination and building. This happened especially in the city-state Athens.

I used an amphora and it's used for storage. I picked it because I thought the handles and the vase were cool. I liked this lesson because it is about an old kind of art that's still around today and we can bring out our own artistic style in our drawing. We each got to embrace our own interests. I learned what all the vases were used for and what red-figure design is.

I used a krater. I picked it because I thought it was the most interesting looking vase. Also, it was used to mix water and wine and that's a bit like chemistry and I'm interested in chemistry. That's another reason why I picked the krater for my vase. My design is about a war between mythological gods and creatures. Poseidon, Artemis and Pegasus are in the drawing. They are fighting a dragon. I used black-figure design because when we looked at ancient Greek vases I thought the black-figure design looked the best. In this lesson I learned more about Greek mythology and ancient Greek culture. I liked the lesson because we could use weapons in our drawings as long as they were used back in ancient Greece. Greek vases are important to us because they help us learn about the way people lived centuries ago.

I used a hydria. I picked this vase because it's an interesting pot. The hydria was used for storing water. I used black-figure design because I think it stands out better. I learned that there are different kinds of pots and each had it's own purpose. I also learned that the Greeks wore masks in Greek theaters to show people if they were happy or sad. I liked this project. It was fun.

I used a hydria because I liked the design of the vase. The hydria was used for storing water. I learned that in ancient Greece they would draw pictures of themselves on vases. I liked this lesson because I thought ancient Greece was very interesting.

I used an amphora. An amphora was used for storing oil. I liked it because it has small handles and I thought they were unique. I liked this lesson because I was able to use a lot of patterns on my vase. I learned how to draw Greek vases and use red-figure style and black-figure style design.
